Olympics wrap-up: Day 13

The big news on Day 13 was Usain Bolt's unprecedented defence of his 200-metre title in another crowd-pleasing performance. It was a Jamaican clean sweep, as Yohan Blake and Warren Weir took silver and bronze.

Even more thrilling was Kenyan David Rushida's world record 800-meter final, a race so fast that all eight competitors posted new personal bests.

America won more athletics gold on Thursday, as Ashton Eaton maintained his huge lead to win the decathlon, while Christian Taylor leapt to the triple jump title.

Great Britain's Nicola Adams won the first ever women's boxing gold medal, followed closely by Ireland's Katie Taylor in the lightweight category winning her nation's first gold medal in London.

Britain also won gold in the individual dressage event. China's Ruolin Chen triumphed in women's 10-meter platform diving. Germany, Hungary and Australia won canoeing gold. And Russia's Eva Ristov won the women's swimming marathon.

Team sports are starting to reach their final phases all over London. On Thursday night, Germany beat Brazil to win the men's beach volleyball gold, becoming the first European champions in the sport. And the American women's football team beat Japan to claim their third straight Olympic title.

At the end of Day 13, the USA returns to the top of the medals table with 90 total medals, 39 of them gold. China is second with 37 golds, and Great Britain is third with 25.

On Friday there are several more big athletics finals, including the women's 1500 and 5000-meter races, the men's pole vault and relays for both men and women.

Holland and Argentina will play for gold in women's hockey, and medals will also be awarded in marathon swimming, synchronised swimming, sailing, BMX cycling, wrestling, taekwondo and boxing.
