Olympics latest: GB's Chris Hoy going for gold

The host nation is pinning its hopes on more gold medals at the cycling track competition on Day 6 of the Games.

Team GB's Chris Hoy is going for gold on the first day of Track Cycling to follow up his success in the Games at Beijing in 2008.

More medals are up for grabs in rowing with the women's eight and the men's lightweight fours and the men's double sculls taking to the water today.

Off the track, Great Britain's Bradley Wiggins, winner of the cycling time trial, has called for safety helmets to be made compulsory after a cyclist died when he was hit by a bus transporting media staff between Olympic venues.

Day 6 of the Games also sees more action on the water. Slovakian twins Peter and Pavol Hochschorner compete for an historic fourth consecutive gold medal in the men's canoe slalom. The action takes places at the Lee Valley White Water Centre on what promises to be a thrilling day of competition.
