NVIDIA recently unveiled their latest and top-of-the-line gaming GPU, the GeForce GTX 1080. This graphics card is based on the newly created Pascal architecture engine that is more powerful than its predecessor. It can also offer the best gaming experience that nobody has ever experienced before.

The NVIDIA Pascal GTX 1080 is based on the latest and the most power efficient 16nm FinFET technology. This technology allowed the company to pack in more transistors, which allows its GPU to deliver higher clock speeds and better performance than its previous models.

The company said, "The revolutionary NVIDIA Pascal architecture is purpose-built to be the engine of computers that learn, see and simulate our world -- a world with infinite appetite for computing."

GTX 1080 houses the GP104 GPU, which houses a total of 7.2 billion transistors and paired with a new type of video memory, 8GB of GDDR5X. This combination offers great improvements in terms of memory bandwidth, which in turn offers very low latency, hence, a better gaming experience.

VideoCardz reported that based on the leaked GTX 1080 OpenCL performance test, the new video card only showed a 10 to 14 percent boost over the GM200 and Fiji-based GPUs. However, the report also mentioned the current numbers will still change and will be more stable once more tests are performed on the new card, which is still not available to the general public.

According to BGR, NVIDIA demoed its high-end GPU during its unveiling in Austin, Texas with the upcoming "DOOM" game, and the GTX 1080 offered a very interesting performance. The game ran smoothly at 200 frames per second on Ultra graphics settings. However, there was no video feed to record the actual game footage, but the game developer, id Software, used an NVIDIA Titan X GPU to try and replicate video performance.

The NVIDIA Pascal GTX 1080 "Founders Edition" is available for US$699, while the standard GPU will have a starting price of US$599. It will be offered starting May 27.
