Nintendo NX rumor: Upcoming system to be a home console?

While fans are waiting for Nintendo to come out with firm details on its next endeavor, the Nintendo NX, speculations place the upcoming platform to be a combination of a home console and a handheld system, merging technology behind the Wii U and the 3DS. However, some hints and clues floated online on what the platform will be when it finally releases.

According to SiliconEra, the confusion and speculation on what the Nintendo NX could be when it releases have been answered in a recent interview. The industry follower said that according to Koei Tecmo President and CEO Yoichi Erikawa, the Nintendo NX is a will have home console system features.

In an interview with 4Gamer, Erikawa stated a comparison between the upcoming Nintendo platform and the PlayStation 4.

"Actually, I think that it'll start doing much better. The PlayStation 4 has recently surpassed 2 million units in nationwide sales, and Nintendo announced a new 'machine' called the NX. From this point forward, I believe that each company will make clear commitments for these machines," the CEO said.

SiliconEra believes that with a company president comparing the upcoming platform with a home console system, the speculations that the NX will be a handheld system have been proven to be hearsays. However, it is unclear whether the NX will be a pure home console system, or one with handheld, mobile features.

The recent statement from Nintendo has also been unclear. According to Express UK, Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima said that the NX is a part of the company's "dedicated video game platform business."

Kimishima added during a recent investors' meeting that the next offering "is a gaming platform codenamed "NX" with a "brand-new concept and our unique software-led hardware-software integrated business will continue to constitute the core business for Nintendo."
