Nintendo NX release date, updates: Console expected to be unveiled in October

The Nintendo NX is still set to be released by March 2017, and yet, the gaming company Nintendo still has not made any official unveiling. However, there have been reports claiming that the announcement might come next month.

According to a report from Nintendo Life, this may change by October as it is expected that Nintendo will finally reveal the NX to the public in a special Nintendo Direct.

The Wall Street Journal's Takashi Mochizuki stated via Twitter that analysts have discerned that Nintendo is likely going to make an announcement during this year's Tokyo Game Show or in October through a Nintendo Direct video. Nintendo has confirmed via a report from Forbes that they are attending the Tokyo Game Show.

It is further noted that, at the time of writing, nothing official about the NX has been stated by Nintendo, except for the fact that it launches in March 2017.

However, popular rumors suggest that the NX will be a small console-handheld hybrid which will feature detachable controllers. It is also expected to use highly advanced cartridges instead of CDs. Additionally, popular Nintendo franchises like "Mario" and "The Legend of Zelda" will be released on the NX within a year of the console's launch.

According to a report from Express, one of the possible reasons why the NX has not yet been revealed to the public is that Nintendo is aiming to tie the NX's unveiling with a big mobile gaming announcement. It hints that the NX may feature mobile gaming connectivity, such as being able to play "Super Mario Run," a recently announced game that will roll out this December for the iOS and in 2017 for Android devices.

Forbes states that the lack of information from Nintendo, the fact that most consoles since the debut of the Playstation 2 launch in fall, and the fact Nintendo still hasn't done anything to promote the NX all seem to hint that there will be a delay in the console's release. It is speculated the NX may be pushed back to launch in fall 2017.
