Nexus 7 2016 rumor: Snapdragon 820 processor in Huawei device?

With the continuing success of the new Nexus 6P, it seems that Huawei will get to enjoy another partnership with Google. According to speculations, the China-based company will be making another Nexus iteration next year, and it will be another premium flagship, with a new Snapdragon 820 chipset featured in the device.

According to Tech Radar, the news comes from inside China itself, with industry analyst Pan Jiutang making the prediction. Jiutang is the head of Shenzhen Huaqiang Electronics Research Institute in China. According to the industry follower, Jiutang had correctly predicted Google and Huawei's moves prior to the release of the Nexus 6P.

Jiutang predicted that a Nexus smartphone next year will be made by Huawei, with a Snapdragon 820 processor powering the unit. Reportedly, Google was unimpressed with Huawei's homegrown Kirin 950 chipset (launched with the new Mate 8 flagship), and would only work with Huawei if the company would be using a Snapdragon variant for a new Nexus.

However, it is unclear if Google is targeting a two-flagship release for 2016, like what it did with the Nexus 5X and 6P. If there will be two flagship iterations for next year, then Huawei's Nexus will be the premium one, with the Snapdragon 820 chipset on it. The second one, meanwhile, would most likely be an above-average device, much like what the Nexus 5X was positioned when it launched.

Phone Arena said that the success of the Nexus 6P endeared Huawei to Google, and fans of the Nexus lineup will most likely enjoy more Huawei-made Nexus products. Aside from the next Nexus smartphone, it is also rumored that Huawei will be making a refreshed Nexus 7 tablet.

The Snapdragon 820 processor is the much-hyped next-gen chipset for premium flagships and rumored to be released early next year. Aside from Google, other manufacturers that are also rumored to be switching to the newest Snapdragon processor include Samsung for the Galaxy S7 flagship, LG for the G5 and Sony Mobile for the Xperia Z6 lineup.
