NFL Sunday Night Football tonight will see a big clash between the New York Giants and the Minnesota Vikings. The Giants were eliminated from the Playoff picture on Saturday night after the Washington Redskins confirmed themselves as NFC East champs, but for the Vikings there is still a lot to play for in today's game. The Vikings will be hoping to surprise everyone and take the NFC North title this season, and they will be looking to make sure they win today against a Giants team eliminated less than 24 hours before, who are also without suspended wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.
Minnesota could clinch their Playoff spot even before the teams take to the field today. If the Seattle Seahawks win, or the Atlanta Falcons lose earlier in the day on Sunday then the Vikings will be able to take to the field at TCF Bank Stadium knowing their postseason berth is already secure.
The Vikings could also confirm their postseason spot with a win tonight, and can also clinch their first NFC North title if they can win today and then claim a victory against the Green Bay Packers in next week's regular season finale.
Teddy Bridgewater has said, "We just have to understand the situation. It's the time of the year where teams are playing their best football, and I'm glad that we're on the upside of that right now and have momentum heading into this next game. It's good to get things going in December, especially with the chance to make a playoff run."
Earlier this week on Saturday night, the NFC East division was all but concluded, with the Washington Redskins defeating the Philadelphia Eagles to confirm themselves as division champions.
The Redskins clinched the division title, and with it a postseason spot, with a comfortable 38-24 win. Their appearance in the Playoffs this season will be their first since the 2012 season, and comes as a surprise as not many had predicted the Redskins would take the NFC East at the start of the season.
The result means the 8-7 Redskins will play a home Playoff game against the No. 5 seeded team in the NFC. At the moment that would mean a match up against the Seattle Seahawks, which would be a massive challenge as they have made huge strides in the second half of the season and at the moment look like one of the most dangerous teams in the league.
If the results in the coming few weeks shake things up more though, then the Redskins could get a game against the 9-5 Minnesota Vikings, which is another daunting prospect for Washington. However, at the moment the Redskins may just want to enjoy the fact that they're back in the postseason and whoever it turns out they face, what will be will be.
Kirk Cousins has been one of the core reasons the Redskins have managed to surprise people this season, and he has played above everyone's expectations. On Saturday night he completed 31 of 46 throws for 365 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions.
At the start of the season, the Redskins suffered poor form through their opening six games. During that period, Kirk Cousins threw eight interceptions, where as in the nine games since he threw just three.
They will need the new improved Kirk Cousins if they are to make an impact in the Playoffs.
