New Evangelical Alliance General Secretary Appointed for Scotland

The Evangelical Alliance of Scotland has appointed a new General Secretary this week. Rev Fred Drummond, who is a Church of Scotland minister and an Evangelical Alliance Scotland executive member, will take up his new position in July 2006.

|TOP|The EA in Scotland has taken the move with the aim to “drive forward the organisation’s mission to unite with Scottish Christians, in together becoming a more effective witness to Christ and an influential voice to government, society and Church”.

Rev Mike Parker, the present EA Scotland General Secretary will now move to the Middle-East.

Rev Drummond, 44, is currently the minister of Perth Riverside Church and is on the board of the local YMCA.

Drummond commented, “I am excited by the opportunities and challenges that I have been called to at this stage in my life. I’m looking forward to working with a wide range of evangelicals in Scotland and hope to work Alltogether with them.”

Having started his career as an apprentice ship-builder, Drummond went on to study theology, and over recent years he has been a supporter of the ‘emerging Church’ projects.

|AD|Drummond graduated with a DMin from Columbia University in the USA and specialised in New Church Ministry.

As an author, Drummond has had his book ‘I Spy the Rainbow; Becoming like a Child to Deepen Your Spiritual Life’ published. He is currently working on a new book entitled ‘Christian Leadership in a Post Modern Age’.

The Chairman of the Appointment Committee, Rev Graeme Clark testified: “Rev Drummond brings to this post not only a deep passion for God but outstanding qualities as both a leader and a pastor.

“He has shown in his work at Riverside and through his wider commitment to the church in Scotland a vision to see Christians shape the church to how the world actually is, rather than how they would like the world to be, or remember it used to be. As an author and gifted communicator he will, I am sure, continue to grow the work of the Evangelical Alliance in Scotland in fresh and exciting ways.”

Also warmly welcoming the new appointment was outgoing General Secretary Rev Mike Parker, who said, “I’m delighted to see a clear transition in Evangelical Alliance Scotland and that Mr Drummond’s gifts will become available to the wider church. His experience of growing new churches and engaging with Scottish culture will be a great asset to us all.”

The General Secretary of the Evangelical Alliance UK, Rev Joel Edwards also stated, “We welcome Fred to the staff of the Alliance. His experience as a local pastor will be invaluable. He will make a significant contribution in helping shape Evangelical Alliance Scotland at this strategic moment in its history.”
