The Dallas Mavericks lineup is slowly taking shape after some great catches in NBA Free Agency.
DeAndre Jordan and Wes Matthews have committed to join the franchise, and once the official signing takes place, chances are the Mavs will be looking to beef up their supporting cast.
A key position that the Mavs have to decide on is the point guard position. With the departure of Monta Ellis (now with the Pacers) and Rajon Rondo (set to sign a one-year deal with the Sacramento Kings), the Mavs are left with JJ Barrea, Felton Spencer and Devin Harris at the guard spot.
So in the next couple of days, expect the Mavs to frantically scamper for reasonably priced point guards in the market, and one of them will most likely be Jeremy Lin.
Lin has been mentioned as a possible new face and once the Mavs have settled down, expect Dallas officials to meet with the Asian-American standout.
Lin has suddenly become one of the most coveted guards in the league, as teams try to fit in available talent with their available cap space. Coming off a humongous contract with the Los Angeles Lakers (part of the original contract Lin signed with the Houston Rockets), Lin is forecast to be worth somewhere in the mini mid-level range.
Aside from Lin, it should be interesting to see if the Mavs will still pursue Roy Hibbert of the Indiana Pacers.
Hibbert was a back-up plan in case the team failed to recruit DeAndre Jordan. But the tables have now turned, with Jordan's signing possibly easing out Hibbert as a candidate because the Pacers center does carry a hefty contract worth $15 million for the coming season.
However, another team could now be interested in Hibbert – the Los Angeles Clippers. With the departure of Jordan, the Clippers have a big hole in the middle.
The Clippers are most likely going to succeed in getting Hibbert since the Pacers seem open to the idea. Hibbert's departure can take a load off the salary budget that the Pacers have to deal with, something that could possibly allow them to use that $15-million salary budget on some other player.
