Glen "Big Baby" Davis will likely be playing for another team in the NBA as soon as he recovers from a recent ankle surgery.
Davis will be out between two to three months to have his ankle ligaments repaired and have cyst and bone spurs removed. Davis incurred the injury during game six of the Los Angeles Clippers vs. San Antonio Spurs face-off during the first round of the 2014–15 NBA playoffs.
Davis is likely to play only by December at the earliest, although the more important question right now is where.
The Clippers have recently signed Chuck Hayes which makes the frontline of head coach Doc Rivers pretty much crowded. And with the burly center/forward out of commission for the next couple of months, it may be hard to see him returning to his old team.
Of course, he could still be given a chance to compete for a spot by the time he is healthy. But the thing he is, he may want to pray that Hayes doesn't leave an impression.
Aside from Hayes, other players making up the frontline of the Clippers include DeAndre Jordan, Cole Aldrich, Blake Griffin, Josh Smith, and Branden Dawson.
Checking out the first couple of names, Davis could have found it tough to compete for ample playing time had he had been re-signed ahead of Hayes. How much more if he were coming off injury?
Davis has, of course, been long associated with head coach Rivers, dating back to their Boston Celtics days. But the reality of it all is that the Clippers may not need him at this point.
If so, where could he end up?
As far as the NBA is concerned, the Dallas Mavericks were reportedly interested in him before so that could still be a possibility. If not the Mavs, Davis could take his act overseas.
Wherever he ends up, such is likely to be known by December when he fully recovers from his ankle surgery.
