National prayer day organisers sign Wembley contract

As crowds were flocking to the Olympic Stadium for the opening ceremony of the Games, Global Day of Prayer for London trustees were on their way to Wembley to sign a historic document to hire Wembley Stadium for tens of thousands of Christians to gather for the National Day of Prayer & Worship on September 29.

"I'm so glad that we are signing this contract today and that Wembley is working in collaboration with GDOP London towards this momentous event," said Jim Frayling, Wembley Stadium Events Director.

"It's wonderful to think just hours ahead of the special celebrations on the Opening night of the Games, that in just over nine weeks we'll be celebrating as one church at Wembley Stadium all that God will have done during the Olympics and beyond," said GDOP London Convener Jonathan Oloyede.

Already the response across the nation for NDOP Wembley has been remarkable. More than 25,000 tickets have been booked. Dean Seddon who runs ticketing for the gathering has reported an average of 700 tickets are being booked per day, and NDOP Wembley is seeing that number on the increase.

The latest confirmed artists include Noel Robinson, Graham Kendrick, Matt Redman, Tim Hughes, Guvna B and the RCCG Mass Choir.

NDOP Wembley organisers say the event will be a historic opportunity for the church in the British Isles from every denomination, stream, and tradition to unite at Wembley Stadium to pray for our Nation. Gates will open at 12:30pm and the programme will run from 2-6:30pm.

Part of the plan includes commissioning 10,000 young people towards evangelism, mission and transformation of their communities.
