The company responsible for developing the Firefox web browser will be transforming its flagship product in to a mobile operating system called Firefox OS. The Firefox OS will be assimilated in to flip phones, according to the information posted on The Verge. In order to carry out its plan to fruition, the company has formed partnerships with Verizon Wireless along with other carriers in order to bring smartphones running the Firefox OS to different regions.

Currently, the mobile operating system is being dominated by Google's Android platform, followed by Apple's iOS and then Microsoft Windows Mobile. Mozilla will be looking to disrupt the healthy growth of the aforementioned operating systems by bringing something new to the table. In fact, the company has also managed to form alliances with different tech firms from different countries.

During the Mobile World Conference show, it was revealed that the Japanese carrier KDDI, South Korea's LG U+ and Spain's Telefonica have decided to partner with Mozilla, and the smartphones that will be sporting the Firefox operating system are expected to be launched in 2016. According to CNET, Mozilla plans on penetrating the market by introducing inexpensive devices that will possess low performing hardware components.

Previously, Sprint had announced its partnership with the company but later rescinded its decision after a few months, most likely because the communications firm did not believe that Mozilla's Firefox OS would proliferate across the region in terms of popularity. According to the information posted on CNET, Mozilla's Chief Technology Officer, Andreas Gal has stated:

"The operators see customer demand for these form factors. With Firefox OS we have the ability to actually serve that market. You'll see us broadening the categories we're bringing Firefox OS to. We see less and less competition in the entry-level segment with Android trending higher and higher in specs and Nokia Asha kind of disappearing."

Mozilla's business model happens to revolve around targeting the lower markets and then aim for the higher ones.
