With a flurry of Motorola smartphones released in 2014, Motorola is expected to release a successor of its Moto X 2014 this year. While no current release date has been leaked, coupled with the fact that there is no word on the exact model name of the upcoming device, it is currently being referred to as Moto X 2015. News that a brand new handset will be released in 2015 came from Motorola Mobility's president Rick Osterloh. The executive had posted some updates courtesy of his official Twitter account in order to reply to some queries concerning the release of another smartphone.

Responding to some questions on Twitter, Rick Osterloh was asked by Edoardo Maggio (Twitter name @northead) the following question:

"@rosterloh Can we expect the next generation Moto X to come out in the same time-frame of the past two years?"

Osterloh replied the following:

".@northead we try to stay on a roughly annual cycle for all of our products including Moto X. #AskRickO"

Another Twitter user by the name of Sumer Broota asked the executive whether or not the firm was going to roll out a fully functional tablet this year. The conversation has been given below:

"@rosterloh will @Motorola get into the tablet space this year? #AskRickO"

Osterloh responded:

".@broota_sumer @Motorola On Tablets, we don't have any plans, but @lenovo has lots of great offerings here (e.g., Yoga). #AskRickO"

According to the evidence gathered from the Twitter conversation, it appears that Motorola will be looking at September 2015, in order to unveil Moto X 2015. As for the hardware specifications, it is possible that a Snapdragon 810 coupled with 3 GB of RAM and a large battery pack will be incorporated in to the upcoming handset. Similar to Moto X 2014, the device is most likely going to be void of a microSD slot but in order to appease consumers, it will be running Google's Android Lollipop 5.1 update 'out of the box.'
