'Mortal Kombat XL' release date: Pre-orders for Xbox One bundle now live

While it has already been announced that the bundled pack for "Mortal Kombat X" will not arrive until March 1, Xbox One players can already pre-load the game on their consoles.

According to an announcement, digital pre-orders for the "Mortal Kombat XL" bundle have already started for the Xbox Live. However, although players can already download the title, the game itself will not be playable until the general release of the game. This means that pre-ordered copies will still be locked until March 1.

UberGizmo clarified that the "Mortal Kombat XL" title is just a collection. Those new to the franchise might think that the upcoming game is a new title under the "Mortal Kombat" franchise. However, "Mortal Kombat XL" is just a package title, featuring the original "Mortal Kombat X" game released early last year, plus all the additional DLC packs released by NetherRealm Studios.

Meanwhile, NeoWin stated that those who wish to check out the latest "Mortal Kombat" title can get the "XL" package, since it will also include fighters from the recently announced "Kombat Pack 2" DLC. This means that aside from the complete game and DLC items that were already released, "Mortal Kombat XL" purchases also feature at least two new characters for the roster. However, the developer did not name which of the four new playable "Kombat Pack 2" characters will be included. Additional characters from the first "Kombat Pack" DLC are also included in the upcoming release.

"Kombat Pack 2" features the Xenomorph from "Alien," Leatherface from "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" films, and "Mortal Kombat" veterans Tri-borg and Bo'Rai Cho.

According to Polygon, the "Mortal Kombat XL" special edition bundle will launch on March 1 in North America and March 4 in Europe. The complete "Mortal Kombat X" package has a $59.99 price tag.
