Surface Pro 4 vs Surface Pro 3 specs: What will the next-gen hybrid bring?

Microsoft's upcoming slate, the Surface Pro 4 is expected to bring about numerous improvements compared to the company's current flagship tablet lineup, the Surface Pro 3. While the Surface Pro 3 did manage to bridge the gap between high performing tablets and laptops due to the products' assimilation with Intel's laptop based processors, the tech giant's Surface Pro 4 will either be incorporated with Intel's Broadwell chips or the Skylake processors, according to the information present on PCPro.

The Skylake processors are considered to be far more perferred compared to Broadwell chips seeing as how their smaller lithographic process will deliver more processing power coupled with impressive energy efficiency, leading to higher battery life for users. As far as the release timeline of the upcoming processors go, it is expected that Intel's Skylake chips will be released during the second half of 2015, which is the same period when Microsoft will be officially releasing the Windows 10 operating system.

However, it has not been confirmed if the Surface Pro 4 lineup will be arriving before or after the release of the upcoming operating system. The more prudent thing for the company to do would be to release the lineup after the release of Windows 10, since the products will be running the platform 'out of the box', allowing users to skip the tedious process of updating their tablets to the latest operating system. According to PCPro, the Surface Pro 4 lineup is expected to ship out in the 14 and 12 inch models, followed by a either a 10 or an 8 inch model that will be running Intel's Atom SoC.

The resolution on all tablet variants is expected to measure 2160 x 1440, which is the same resolution running on the Surface Pro 3 lineup. In addition, the upcoming products are also expected to feature more connectivity options compared to its predecessor models, allowing additional flexibility for the user.
