Microsoft Surface Phone release date news: new phone from Microsoft catering for business professionals?

Microsoft is reportedly launching the Surface Phone. Speculations suggest that instead of an all-around iteration, the new Surface Phone's specs will focus on business-related tasks.

According to Corporate VP for Windows Kevin Gallo, the new Surface Phone will be built for work, with Enterprise apps as its focus. The Register reports that though Gallo did not provide any specifics, the Microsoft executive hinted that the upcoming Windows Phone is more for work professionals. Gallo said, "We're really aligned to what we've done on the Windows desktop, which is we'll lead with some high end and category innovation like we've done with Surface, and OEMs will go and build the breadth of the catalog."

Having a work-related phone for users will not come as a surprise for hardcore Windows fans. Since it is already confirmed that Microsoft is working on a Windows 10 for mobile, the Surface Phone is more likely an extension of the same platform and work environment as Windows 10 for slates. This is highly likely, as it will take advantage of Windows 10 features such as improvement in-between syncing for devices, as well as give business professionals another mobile and portable medium to use Windows 10.

Meanwhile, Microsoft has yet to come out with the specs sheet for the new Surface Phone. However, since it will most likely go head-to-head with other flagships like Samsung and Apple, it is already expected that the Surface Phone will come out with high-end specs. Speculations range from a Snapdragon 830 chipset to Intel's X3 Atom processor, at least 6GB of RAM, and 128GB of onboard storage. Reportedly, Microsoft will also feature a signature Carl Zeiss lens for the new Surface Phone, with a 21MP camera setup.

The Microsoft Surface Phone is rumored to come out sometime next year.
