Man walking in M61 motorway hit by car

A man escaped with a broken leg after he was hit by a car while walking in the fast lane of a motorway, police said on Sunday.

The M61 motorway in north-west England was closed on Saturday for just over an hour after the man, trying to dodge traffic, was struck by the car.

The man, who was taken to Bolton Royal Infirmary, suffered a fracture to his left leg, but is in stable condition. The driver of the car was treated for shock.
