Malawi has suspended its anti-homosexual law ahead of a decision from the parliament on whether to repeal it altogether.
Homosexual conduct is a crime in Malawi punishable by up to 14 years in prison.
The country made international headlines when two gay men were arrested and charged with public indecency after marrying.
Steven Monjeza, 26, and Tiwonge Chimbalanga, 20, were convicted but later pardoned by President Bingu wa Mutharika.
The moratorium on the anti-gay laws is in effect until the parliament votes on whether to change the law.
Until that time, police have been instructed not to arrest anyone for homosexual acts.
