'Mad Max' canceled for Xbox 360 and PS3; to release for PS4 and Xbox One in Sept.

 Avalanche Studios

"Mad Max," the open post-apocalyptic world game developed by Avalanche Studios, will be released for distribution on Sept. 1 in North America, to be followed by its rollout in the U.K. on Sept. 4. The game was scheduled for release last year, but was eventually delayed

At the moment, the publisher is focusing on releasing the new title for the next generation of consoles, stopping developments for release on the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 versions.

A statement from partner Warner Bros., posted by GameSpot, reads, "To ensure players get the best Mad Max experience possible, Avalanche Studios is focused 100% on developing the game for PS4, Xbox One and PC. This has allowed the studio to maximize the potential of those platforms and stay true to the core vision of Mad Max."

The same statement also informed fans that pre-ordering "Mad Max" entitles them to a gift in the form of an extra Magnus Opus car body. Called The Ripper, it has a V8 engine, improved exhaust and custom off-road wheels plus grilles and souped-up suspension.

In the game, popularized by the film series created by George Miller, players take on the role of Max who goes about his life in a post-apocalyptic world. Armed with a shotgun and the upgradeable Magnus Opus car, gamers take on missions to create order from chaos in his world. From surviving in the wastelands to taking on roaming bands of bandits, Max needs to wield both his shotgun and melee weapons to defend and attack.

The September release means that "Mad Max" will launch before Avalanche's other open-world title, "Just Cause 3," scheduled to launch for next-gen consoles this coming winter. The gaming community also notes that this will coincide with the release of another action-packed role playing game, "Metal Gear Solid V," and fans are already gearing up for the question on which between the two titles will overwhelm gamers.
