By now everyone knows that DeAndre Jordan has had a major change of heart and has decided to remain with his previous team, the Los Angeles Clippers.
It was widely believed that Jordan would be on his way out, agreeing to a four-year deal worth $80 million to join the Dallas Mavericks. However, this was only verbal and nothing could be made official until July 9th, the day when teams and players could start signing contracts.
Though there is nothing illegal about committing (verbally) the NBA does discourage it since it disrupts any NBA team's plans moving forward. And with Jordan backing out, the Mavericks did find themselves in an awkward position.
Jordan's change of heart left the Mavs without a big man though it wasn't long before the team eventually got Zaza Pachulia from the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for a couple of second-round draft picks.
After Jordan elected to re-sign with the Clippers, he issued a public apology via Twitter.
Despite the said apology, Mark Cuban would brush off the said apology and believed that the tweet was a fake and didn't really come from Jordan himself. Below is what Cuban said in regard to Jordan's tweets.
Apparently, Cuban is not happy. Jordan's sudden change of heart left the Mavs on rocky ground until the Pachulia deal materialized. Cuban does not blame the NBA moratorium (on signing of players) as the reason behind the setback. Rather, he believes that Jordan was the one who had the problem.
With this saga over, it marks the second time that the Mavs were burned.
Back in 2012, current Milwaukee head coach Jason Kidd likewise informed Cuban he was returning after agreeing to a three-year $9 million contract.
Kidd's commitment came on the morning of July 5. Come the afternoon however (after reportedly a round of golf), Kidd informed Cuban that he had opted to join the Knicks instead.
The difference is that Kidd was already a move a year prior, the year when the Mavs won the 2011 NBA championship. And just like with Jordan, Cuban was irate though all has been over and done with and both have patched up their differences.
