Preparations for the fifth season of "Longmire" are starting to take shape as an open casting call has finally been held.

A report from LA Monitor revealed that the New Mexico Federation of Labor as well as the New Mexico Film Workers Union conducted an open casting call for the critically acclaimed Western-inspired police-procedural saga on Saturday.

The report said that those who would vie for a role in "Longmire" season 5 would have to undergo an on-the-spot professional headshot pictorial under the supervision of local background casting director Robert Baxter. The event was reportedly held at the Santa Claran Hotel Casino in Espanola Valley, New Mexico.

State Senator Richard C. Martinez was reportedly present during the event as a number of aspiring actors lined up to get a chance to play a role in the series.

"Longmire" can be considered as one of the most successful series released on Netflix. But before the series was featured on the entertainment streaming service provider, avid fans of the show had to lobby with Warner Horizon Television to look for a new network to pick up the series after A&E chose to cancel it after its third season despite its strong viewership.

At the moment, there is no word yet if there will be new additions to the current cast of "Longmire" for season 5. But Robert Taylor is expected to reprise his role as Absaroka County sheriff Walt Longmire.

Aside from Taylor, Katee Sackhoff and Lou Diamond Phillips are expected to return as Vic Moretti and Henry Standing Bear, respectively. Fans are also looking forward to see the return of Walt's daughter Cady, portrayed by actress Cassidy Freeman, in the next installment of the series.

Filming for "Longmire" season 5 is expected to begin on March 23 in different areas in New Mexico, while the release date for the new season is expected to be revealed in the coming days.
