'Longmire' season 4 spoilers: Netflix releases first photos

The cast of "Longmire"

The much-awaited return of "Longmire" is just weeks away, and Netflix recently revealed a few promotional stills to give fans a taste of what's to come in the new season.

In the photos exclusively released on Huffington Post, fans get a glimpse of their favorite characters before the show premieres next month. In one shot, Sheriff Walt Longmire (Robert Taylor) and his deputies The Ferg (Adam Bartley) and Vic Moretti (Katee Sackhoff) are seen standing ankle-deep in a river as they investigate a crime scene.

Another shot shows Longmire entering Barlow Connally's (Gerald McRaney) house as he continues to seek answers about his wife's murder, while a third photo shows Longmire and Henry (Lou Diamond Phillips) meeting up at the Red Pony bar. The last photo shows the sheriff talking to casino owner Jacob Nighthorse (A Martinez).

The fourth season picks up just moments after the season 3 finale wherein Longmire found out who was behind his wife's murder, and the sheriff took off in search of the killer with nothing but revenge on his mind. In the upcoming 10-episode season, fans will get to find out if Longmire will have his revenge. It will also be known whether Branch, the deputy whom Longmire fired, has survived the gunshot from last season.

After the show failed to get renewed for a new season at A&E last year, "Longmire" was picked up by Netflix in November, which was a cause for celebration for fans who lobbied hard on social media for the show to be picked up for a fourth season.

Speaking to Deadline at the summer TCA last July, executive producer Greer Shephard said that the show's upcoming season is all about second chances.

"Who you are as a person is defined by how you handle the second chance," he said. "There are a lot of ways in which people can rebuild themselves after devastating experiences. We explore that theme throughout each of our characters."

"Longmire" season 4 premieres on Netflix on Sept. 10.
