Although details on LG's upcoming premium flagship, the G5, have yet to be seen, many tech observers are already saying that the much-awaited device is a vast improvement on the South Korean company's smartphone lineup.

What are the speculated specs of the LG G5, and how does it differ from the current-gen G4 lineup?

Under the hood

Like any new iteration, the LG G5 is touted to use newer internals. According to Tech Radar, LG will be featuring  an improved Snapdragon 820 chipset in the upcoming flagship, the sequel to the LG G4's Snapdragon 808 processor. Meanwhile, although unconfirmed, the G5 might also partner its new chipset with at least 4 GB of RAM. The G5's rumored 2,800-mAh battery might also be small compared to the G4's 3,000 mAh one, but the upcoming flagship reportedly compensates with a streamlined design and power-saving internals specs.

Design

According to AlPhr, one of the rumors that seem consistent with the G5 is that LG chose to build the upcoming flagship from the ground up, including its design. Industry followers are saying that the G5 will have an all-metal form factor, ditching the G4's hybrid metal-and-leather back body. In addition to having an all-metal chassis, the G5 is speculated to come out with an IP6X-rated frame.

Meanwhile, unlike its predecessor, the G5 is touted to be released with removable – therefore upgradable – battery. However, unlike traditional, back-panel placement, the LG G5 will have a retractable bottom instead.

Display and features

The LG G5 is expected to come out with Android 6.0 onboard, although this might not make much of a difference since the G4 has been scheduled to receive an update from Android 5.1 Lollipop. In addition, the upcoming flagship is also said to have an upgraded camera assembly, and even a dual-cam setup for its main shooter with at least 20 MP.

Meanwhile, Pocket-Lint suggested that the G5 might copy another LG venture, the V10, in terms of dual-display feature and will have a ticker on top of its main 5.6-inch QHD display.
