LG G5 release date, specs rumor: unique battery slot

Fans expect the upcoming LG G5 flagship to make its way to the market early this year. Although LG itself has yet to provide details about the iteration, supposed tech specs continue to float online. The latest rumors suggest that the LG G5 might come with a number of new features.

According to Express UK, the LG G5 will carry a unique twist as a flagship smartphone. Although the upcoming premium smartphone is touted to feature IP6X certification (meaning it will be water-resistant, at least), the body itself will not have an all-metal, unibody design.

Noted tipster Evan Blass got information that the LG G5 will have a removable bottom. This removable bottom will allow access to the battery compartment, which, if proven true, also indicates that the LG G5 will have upgradeable battery as an added feature.

The industry follower added that aside from the battery, the compartment will also house the microSD and SIM card trays.

BGR said that this could also be the "magic slot" that previous speculations pointed to. Earlier rumors suggested that LG will include a "magic slot" in the LG G5 to have the device expand its features even more.

Meanwhile, other rumored specs of the upcoming flagship include a fingerprint sensor, USB Type-C connectivity (which will also give the G5 have a smaller, sleeker profile), and a dual-cam setup on the back.

As for its release date, LG has been sending out teasers for an early 2016 outing, noted Pocket-Lint. While the official roll-out date for the device is still up in the air, most observers are saying that LG might be thinking of a February unveiling for the G5. Rumors added that next month's Mobile World Congress will be the venue for the great reveal.
