It looks like Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy will not let something trivial like an ankle injury stop him from a taking shot at glory.
The Bills stalwart recently got carted off the field in a game against the Miami Dolphins last Sunday when he got tackled and could not get up. The player was seen wincing and pounding the field in what was probably a combination of agony and frustration as the playoffs are about to start and the team is set to make their first appearance since 1999.
The Bills' head coach Sean McDermott said on Monday, however, that the team is hopeful that McCoy will be cleared to play in the first round against the Jacksonville Jaguars. This was after the X-ray tests on his ankle came out negative, according to an interview by sports network ESPN.
"He's gonna have a chance, we'll see," McDermott said Monday afternoon, adding, "We're continuing to go through the medical evaluation on that. We got some good news this morning (that the X-rays were negative), so we'll just continue to monitor that."
McDermott refused to give further details on how bad the ankle injury is. He simply said, "I'm not a doctor, nor do I play one on television."
McCoy is probably the biggest contributor to the team. He currently ranks fourth in the NFL this season in rushing with a total of 1,138 yards. He also leads his team in passes received, with 59 successful ones.
However, even if their best player still is not well enough by the playoffs, the coach is still confident that his team will do well, saying that there are more than one players who are willing to step up and do their part.
Democratic Chronicle quoted McDermott saying "You've seen 63 guys prepare all season long and that was on display yesterday when (Marcus Murphy) stepped up and did his job, and Mike Tolbert as well. Our coaches do a great job of preparing not only the starters but the guys who play after that."
