Lenovo Smart Cast is a smartphone projector capable of displaying a virtual keyboard on to any surface

Lenovo, which is regarded as the largest PC maker in the world, has assimilated a very unique form on tech in its upcoming devices, which the company refers to as Smart Cast. Smart Cast is a small Pico-projector placed in smartphones, giving mobile devices a handful of innovative properties. For starters, the projector will allow users to display a virtual keyboard from their handsets and start using them like a regular keyboard.

According to Engadget, the virtual keyboard can be projected on to any surface, but since that will make it extremely difficult for users to register the keystrokes, it would be more resourceful if the keyboard is projected on a flat surface. The website also states that while tapping on the keyboard, there will be little to no latency experienced by users, making the typing process a fairly simple. The only thing that will be omitted out of the equation will be the lack of a tactile feedback function that physical keyboards deliver when each key has been pressed by an individual.

Regardless, with Smart Cast, Lenovo will be introducing a new field of productivity, particularly for those who have to carry around an additional keyboard for work purposes all the time. The Chinese firm has not stated when the tech will be available in its upcoming devices or if the company will be willing to form partnerships with other smartphone manufacturers in order to let them have access to this technology.

Smartphones and tablets that are going to be released in the future incorporated with Smart Cast will most likely carry a very high price tag. Additionally, Lenovo has not detailed the remainder of the hardware specifications that will be present inside these smartphones so it is possible that the slower the smartphones are, the longer it will take to register a keystroke, which will degrade the overall experience.

The coming months will detail paramount info on what Lenovo's plans are for the future.
