Lecrae recently talked about his personal relationship with God to HipHopDx who described him as "a strong willed man...who isn't afraid to make his values evident." Lecrae's personal relationship with God and his values have been shaped by the Christian values his grandmother instilled in him when he was a kid.

However, when Lecrae was growing up, he didn't think Christianity was helpful. As a matter of fact, he wasn't serious about his faith at all and spent most of his teenage years getting into trouble.

According to Huffington post, Lecrae said, "I would just do whatever, whenever, however. I'd get drunk, jump out of a third-story balcony. So I just lived reckless. I think I just didn't really know what I was living for. I was just living for whatever happens today and that was the extent of it for me."

Moreover, his friend and producer Torrance Esmond corroborated the rapper's statement saying that Lecrae partied, drank a lot and was a ladies man.

Soon, Lecrae was getting into so much trouble he didn't know where to turn. Eventually, he decided that the mature thing to do was to go to church. He didn't start to think otherwise about Christianity until he went to a Bible study where he saw other teens who welcomed and embraced him. Later on he attended a Christian conference where he heard a sermon that deeply touched his heart and had a positive impact on him.

As he kept hearing more and more about the gospel, God became more and more real. He then set his heart to serve God through service and music.

Today, Lecrae tells his story of redemption to give others hope. He tells others about how God helped him turn his life around.

Furthermore, one aspect Lecrae mentions is that he doesn't get caught up in religious traditions, routines or rituals. He has a relationship with God and he carries God with him wherever he goes.
