How did you like "Snow White and the Hunstman?" We're talking about the movie itself, not the scandal that came after it. Anyway, the movie wasn't really that bad at the box office. It was made for $170 million and made around $400 million.
Talks of a sequel have been around since 2012, but nothing really worked out... until now and it's nothing close to what you expect the sequel will be.
First, there will be a new director for the "Snow White and the Huntsman 2" and it is rumored to be Frank Darabont ("The Shawshank Redemption"), according to The Wrap. Darabont is set to replace Rupert Sanders as the director of the first film. However, Darabont has not received an official offer to direct the movie yet, but by the look of it, he's the frontrunner to be the director.
But Sanders isn't the only one getting cut from the movie franchise, it seems like lead star Kristen Stewart has been cut out of the story too. According to Cinema Blend, the movie will be focusing on Chris Hemsworth as the Huntsman. And if "Stewart does return, her appearance [will] likely be limited to a cameo or a handful of brief scenes."
Why so? Well, Universal Pictures thinks that Stewart's brand has weakened significantly since the "Twilight" franchise. Not to mention, the scandal she and director Sanders was part of. On the other hand, Hemsworth's star power just continues to grow, especially after the movies "Thor" and "The Avengers."
Well, if Stewart isn't returning, Charlize Theron will definitely be back as Queen Ravenna. Critics really liked the performances of Theron and Hemsworth in the first movie, which really makes sense in bringing them back. It will be interesting to see how Queen Ravenna will get out of the magic mirror in the next movie.
"Snow White and the Huntsman 2" will start filming by the end of the year and Universal Pictures is setting their eyes on 2016 for the release.
