'Jurassic World 2' release date, plot news: February 2017 sees start of filming; tipped to feature Isla Nublar and Isla Sorna

Jurassic World sequel release date Universal Pictures

"Jurassic World" was a massive success and a sequel is already underway. According to a report from Jurassic Outpost, the sequel is currently using the working title of "Ancient Futures" and the studios are preparing to begin production on Feb. 27, 2017.

It is also revealed that production is being set up in Hawaii, which means Isla Nublar or Isla Sorna are likely going to make an appearance in the film, despite the fact that the ending of the first movie indicated the dinosaurs will likely become a global sensation and that each country or military group might have their own band of dinosaurs.

Isla Nublar is the setting of the original "Jurassic Park" and "Jurassic World." It is where the dinosaurs are kept in pens and are put out on display for tourists to see. Isla Sorna, on the other hand, is the island where the laboratories are found and is where the dinosaurs are born and grown. This island was seen in "The Lost World" and "Jurassic Park 3."

According to the report, primary production is not going to be in Hawaii but in London, at the Pinewood Studios. This may indicate that the scenes in the islands will be very short and that the rest of the film will then take place in other parts of the world.

No official plot has yet been announced and no synopsis has yet been given. The only clue fans have is the ending of "Jurassic World" where Dr. Wu (BD Wong) escaped the island with several dinosaur embryos in his possession, hinting he may be the catalyst for other companies or countries to breed their own dinosaurs.

Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are also confirmed to return but no word has yet been announced regarding other recurring cast members or new actors joining the film.

"Jurassic World 2" opens in theaters on June 22, 2018.
