'Jurassic World 2' release date, plot news: Production looking for best locations; Film to feature crime-fighting dinosaurs?

Jurassic World 2 Universal Studios

Principal photography for "Jurassic World 2" has begun, with a report from Jurassic Outpost revealing that the crew has begun preparing for the film's filming in Hawaii. The film, which has yet to be given an official title, is currently filming under the temporary title "Ancient Futures."

According to the report, filming won't properly begin until Feb. 27, 2017. It is not yet clear, however, if this marks the very first day of production or if filming is already commencing somewhere else and the February 2017 date is when filming will relocate to Hawaii in order to get exterior shots.

Fans of the franchise will note that the previous film shot in Kualoa Ranch, Oahu and this was the location used as a stand-in for Isla Nublar, where the titular park was established.

The return to Hawaii for the film's production also confirms that a portion of the film will be in the islands although it is unclear if it will be Isla Nublar, where the park was built in "Jurassic Park" and later in "Jurassic World," or if it will be used to portray Isla Sorna, the setting of "The Lost World" and is where the dinosaurs are born and bred before shipped to Isla Nublar to be displayed to the public.

In regards to the film's plot, nothing has yet been confirmed from Universal Studios. Ecumenical News reports that the film may be featuring crime-fighting dinosaurs or at least militarized dinosaurs, a concept that was introduced in "Jurassic World." One of the main plots of the film was to see if Velociraptors could be trained as obedient soldiers.

The report points out that "Jurassic World 2" may feature numerous countries with their own personal armies of dinosaurs but may still feature flashbacks in the two islands. Other fans speculate that the main protagonists may need to revisit the two islands in order to find an important item that may help in resolving the threat of militarized dinosaurs.

"Jurassic World 2" opens in theaters in June 2018.
