John David Duggar and Abbie Burnett announce engagement after whirlwind courtship

John David Duggar is the next Duggar child to walk down the aisle after getting engaged to Abbie Burnett!

It seems like the pair have known each other for a few years but it wasn't until they met at a recent church event that they really connected with each other and decided to enter into a courtship.

Duggar, 28, and Burnett, 26, confirmed the engagement in an announcement on the family website where they said it was a 'special moment to share together.'

'The proposal and the 'YES' really solidified that we want to spend the rest of our lives together. One of the most amazing things about following Christ is being able to trust Him to direct your path and lead your life,' they said. 'We are so thankful that He led us to one another. Now we need to start thinking about a wedding!'

The happy couple only announced their courtship a month ago in a TLC video.

Duggar said, 'We've known of each other for several years, but we didn't meet 'til...'

Burnett, a nurse, cut in to explain, 'John flew in for a church event here in Oklahoma where I'm from. We really got connected then.'

Duggar admitted that the two 'fell in love very quickly.' He proved his romantic side by getting down on one knee to pop the question to Burnett in front of a sign that read 'Abbie, will you marry me?'

All fun aside, the pair are taking their marriage commitment to each other seriously as they now look to plan their big day.

Duggar said: 'Engagement is very different than a courtship because engagement actually says, "Okay, I'm committed to this person to marriage for life."

'A courtship is more of a I'm getting to know this person with the idea of the possibility of marriage. But now it's actually that commitment towards marriage.'

The rest of the large Duggar brood expressed their happiness for the couple in a statement on the family website.

'We are thrilled to announce the engagement of John-David and Abbie! They are a wonderful match and make a beautiful couple!' the family said.

'Abbie is a lovely young woman, full of tenderness and compassion. She has a deep love for the Lord and we are so delighted that John-David has asked her to be his wife! We love weddings in this family and can't wait for this next one!'

Duggar and Burnett haven't announced a date or venue for their wedding yet.
