Jessa Duggar's deeply religious other half has once again shared a point for reflection with his over 43,000 Facebook followers.
On December 29, Ben Seewald invited his fans to contemplate the real identity of God versus people's impression of him. He posted Psalm 50:21, which reads "Thou thoughtest that I was altogether such [a] one as thyself," and followed this with his own message.
"As prideful humans, we often think God to be like us," he wrote. "We assume He acts and thinks like we do. However, upon closer examination, the "God" of our culture and the God of the Bible are very different.
"In this verse God is basically saying: 'You thought I was like you.' Implying that He is not like us, but is actually much different than our fallen, finite, imaginations picture Him to be.
"To truly know and learn about God we must go to His Word—not what the culture says He is, and not what we think He ought to be. Let God speak for Himself, and may He teach us about Himself through Scripture."
The 19-year-old Seewald added a series of questions for his readers to think about.
"What are some things you used to believe about God that upon further study proved to be false?" he asked. "What are some new things you've learned about God that you hadn't known or considered before? Has my picture of God changed at all since I began to study His Word?"
Seewald's followers were quick to post their own reflections in the comment thread.
One of the commenters, Jocelyn Hillman, shared, "Until we come to know Him, we tend to draw a box around God and limit his love, forgiveness, peace and omnipotence. He's so much bigger and better than we could ever imagine, and as we grow, all that He is, just overflows over that box we drew around him."
Seewald, who writes in his Facebook bio that he aspires to be a pastor or missionary, often shares something about his faith, as well as words of inspiration, on social media.
In November, the '19 Kids and Counting' star shared photos illustrating "inner peace" and the "storms of life" on Instagram.
Seewald wrote Philippians 4:6-7 as a caption and added, "Do not be worried. Don't be burdened with cares and anxiety. Surrender it all to Jesus and you too can have a peace that passes beyond comprehension! A peace so deep, so complete, so transcendent, that is cannot be stirred."
