Jeremy Lin news update: Lin leads Brooklyn Nets to victory in preseason game against the Detroit Pistons

Jeremy Lin recently held his debut match with his new team, the Brooklyn Nets, in the preseason opener against the Detroit Pistons. Lin notably led his team to victory, teasing of what the Nets and Lin can do together in the 2016–2017 season.

It is important to note that the game will not be included in the rankings and that it is merely an honorary game to get the season started. However, it did allow Lin to play with his new teammates in an actual game, and it is also Kenny Atkinson's first game as the Nets' new coach.

Lin notably managed to score up to 21 points despite only getting around 17 minutes on the hard floor. He managed to put in seven of his 11 shots from the inside and five out of eight three-point shots. In total, the Nets got in 14 of 38 three-point attempts.

Despite the success, Lin will not get carried away and has stated in a report from News Day that he intends on keeping his head in the game.

"The important thing is for me not to get carried away," he explained. "Last year, I had a great preseason, and it counted for nothing. When we started playing, I struggled coming out of the gate. I'm not going to get caught up in anything other than I felt like I played confident tonight, and that's something I can carry over," the basketball player went on to say.

He also noted that for this game they did not utilize the pick-and-roll that he had practiced with his teammates but only because it was not necessary. He did say, however, that in later games it will become crucial for their success.

Jeremy Lin made one noticeable fumble. As reported by USA Today, Lin missed an uncontested lay-up, misjudging his timing and the height of his jump. Despite this error, the report does point out that Lin did make up for it by scoring several other attempts and by leading the Nets with his 21 points throughout the game.

In the end, the Nets defeated the Pistons with a score of 101–94.
