iPhone 7 rumors 2016: New iPhone to release September with wireless EarPods?

Previously, rumors suggested that Apple will be ditching the 3.5 mm audio jack for the iPhone 7, having Lightning-type ports instead. Now, new reports say that the Cupertino-based tech giant is also thinking of having wireless AirPods.

According to MacRumors, patent filings from Apple show that the company is applying for a trademark for "AirPods." Reportedly, although the trademark application came from a non-Apple company, it is already guaranteed that the tech giant has a hand in the filing. This reaffirms previous speculations that Apple will be re-designing the iPhone 7 with a slimmer profile and thinner body, and ditching the 3.5 mm audio jack will be a big plus for the redesign.

Meanwhile, the "no audio jack" rumor is further enforced by supposed leaks for the iPhone 7. Just recently, 9to5Mac reports that an alleged leaked video showing a fully-assembled iPhone 7 has been uploaded in China-based social media site Weibo. In the video, the purported iPhone 7 shares some similar characteristics with the current-gen iPhone 6s, but with glaring differences like an oversized camera, redesigned antenna lines, and an additional speaker grille in lieu of a headphone jack. According to the industry follower, the new, larger camera may be a hint that the phone in question is the basic iPhone 7 model, since the iPhone 7 Plus is expected to have dual-camera setup. It is also said that the same audio technology will make it to the larger, 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus.

While Apple has yet to confirm the purported specs, alleged features of the iPhone 7 have been making rounds online for some time now. According to observers, there will be no definitive upgrades inside the upcoming iPhone, though the design and features will have improvements. Rather, Apple is said to be readying major upgrades for the 2017 iPhone instead.
