iPad Air 3 rumors: New Apple tablet to feature 4 GB of RAM

iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 3

The release of the alleged iPad Air 3 is still far away and the details are scarce since people seem to be more interested in the upcoming iPhone 7. However, a new rumor emerged claiming that the third generation of iPad Air will sport 4 GB of RAM.

According to Taiwanese media EMSOne, Apple will ramp up the RAM of the Apple device, claiming that it will double the RAM featured in the current iPhones and iPad. At present, the iPhone has 1 GB of RAM and the iPad boasts 2 GB. Since a device's performance depends on the amount of RAM it has in the system, a higher RAM means better performance and multi-tasking.

If this rumor proves to be accurate, then it only shows that Apple has felt the need to increase the RAM used in its devices.  Many of its rivals already use higher RAM, with some smartphones already sporting as much as 3 GB. Thus, it is only normal that Apple will include more internal memory in order to keep up with the competition.

Meanwhile, there are reports claiming that Samsung, having won the bidding in manufacturing Apple's processor, already started making the processors meant for  the iPhone 7 and the iPad Air 3.  ETNews reported that the A9 processors are being manufactured in one of Samsung's plants based in Austin, Texas. Despite being rivals in the market, Apple is one of Samsung's biggest clients.

According to reports, the new A9 chip will be using 14 nm FinFET technology making the chipset thinner, lighter, and more power efficient. Since the A9 chip will be thinner, it is speculated that the next iPhone and iPad models will also be thinner than their current profiles.

There are very few rumored features on the iPad Air 3, and Apple has not yet released any official information about the device as it is undoubtedly still busy delivering the orders for the current iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 3.
