The latest OS update can be downloaded and installed to iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus units as well as to iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5, iPhone 4s, iPad Air, iPad mini with Retina display, iPad mini, iPad (third- and fourth-generation), iPad 2 and fifth-generation iPod touch.
Meanwhile, the iOS 8.1.2 update does not intensify the security features of the OS as jailbreakers were still able to jailbreak the mobile software. The latest jailbreak is called TaiG and the directions are in Chinese. The jailbreak only works on Windows, but users can also use a Windows virtual machine that mirrors the functions of the Windows OS.
Below is the step-by-step process on how to jailbreak an Apple device running with the new iOS 8.1.2:
Step 1: Download the TaiG tool and extract its contents. Then, run the tool as an administrator.
Step 2: Get the Apple device and turn off the "Find My iPhone" feature and disable the passcode through the Settings. Enable Airplane mode.
Step 3: Plug the device in the computer and wait until TaiG recognizes the device.
Step 4: Uncheck the second box option and click on the green button.
Step 5: A smiley face indicates that the jailbreaking process is done and successful.
Apple came under fire because of the rocky launch of iOS 8, which was plagued with bugs and issues like battery draining and HealthKit bugs, as well as some issues in the iCloud Drive. The latest iOS 8.1.2 did not undergo testing with users, thus issues may still arise like the weak security of the OS.
