Speculations suggest that Microsoft is still waiting for the mass production of the next-gen Kaby Lake processors from Intel before unveiling a new batch of Surface products.
Breathecast reports that Microsoft is planning to release new products in the Surface line, and rumor has it that they may include the Surface Pro 5 and the Surface Book 2. However, Microsoft is reportedly still waiting for the newest Intel Core processors to come out. With reports that the seventh-gen Intel chipsets will be officially unveiled by the third quarter this year, some have said that Microsoft will not be releasing the rumored new Surface products until early 2017.
Microsoft waiting for the new chipsets seems expected. The industry observer adds that some of the negative feedback that the current crop of Surface products received is due to its mediocre battery management, a system which is affected by the Sky Lake processors inside. Although Microsoft manages to come out with update firmware, some fans are still left unsatisfied with the Surface Pro 4 and the Surface Book. This may also be one of the reasons why the Redmond-based tech giant is waiting for the new version of Sky Lake.
According to PC Advisor, Intel already confirmed at the recently concluded Computex 2016 that it will launch the new seventh-gen Intel Core processors later this year. Codenamed Kaby Lake, the upcoming chipsets will take the place of the current Sky Lake architecture. However, although the Kaby Lake is already a more powerful version, Intel confirmed that it will still use the 14nm process technology like the Sky Lake and Broadwell chipsets. Nonetheless, tech-savvy observers will be glad to know that Intel has also confirmed that starting with its eightth-gen chipset, dubbed Canon Lake, the assembly will use the higher-rated 10nm process. In addition, it is said that the eighth-gen Canon Lake CPUs will launch next year.
