'Hunter x Hunter' chapter 361 release date: Series put on hold over writer Yoshihiro Togashi's health issues

 Weekly Shonen Jump

Fans of the "Hunter x Hunter" series had to wait nearly two years for the last chapter, and according to a report from The BitBag, it is likely fans will need to wait just as long for Chapter 361 due to the declining health of writer and series creator Yoshihiro Togashi.

According to the report, Togashi has been suffering from recurring issues of back pain and this has caused him to slow down in making more chapters for the highly acclaimed series. It is noted that the problem has been rampant for some time but is getting worse as the years go on, causing delays in Chapter 360 and now Chapter 361.

It is further noted that many fans believe Togashi will still be able to get Chapter 361 out soon and that it is only going to be delayed up to March or April of 2017.

The manga's publisher, Shueisha, has noted that there is no definitive date when Togashi may be able to come back and finish the manga series, officially placing "Hunter x Hunter" on indefinite hiatus until Togashi is strong enough and healthy enough to return and work on the series.

Because of this, many fans speculate that Shueisha may at some point hiring new writers to continue finishing "Hunter x Hunter." If this happens then Togashi may still remain on the team as a consultant for the series but no longer as its primary writer and artist given how the work can affect his health.

Shueisha has remained silent regarding the possibility of hiring new writers and has not responded to the rumors that the manga series could continue by early 2017. Chapter 360 ended on a sudden cliffhanger and it might be a long while before fans get some form of resolution to the events that played out, with or without Togashi as the writer.
