Huawei Ascend P9 rumor: New Huawei flagship to launch in March?

Although Huawei is still enjoying the success of its Ascend P8 launch this year, rumors say the China-based is already working on the flagship's successor. In addition, it is also speculated that the follow-up Ascend P9 might come out as early as March.

According to GSM Arena, the rumors started out of Huawei's home country, China. Speculations out of the country suggested that although the company only recently launched a new flagship, the Mate 8, the iteration is under a different flagship lineup.

Meanwhile, the Ascend series launched its current-gen Ascend P8 in April this year, and a March 2016 timeframe seems right for a follow-up.

In terms of specs and design, the Ascend P9 will reportedly still have similar features to the rest of the current-gen iterations in the series. However, there will also be upgrades and subtle differences.

In a report by Tech Times, it is mentioned that the Ascend P9 will take on some competitors in the "curved display" niche such as the Edge variants of Samsung. The Ascend P9 will sport a curvature in its design. However, the industry follower added that it is still unclear if Huawei is opting for a display curve like Samsung's or the curve will be incorporated in the form factor of the unit frame itself.

Meanwhile, Phone Arena maintained that based on earlier supposed "leaked images" of the flagship, the Huawei Ascend P9 could sport a dual camera set-up for its main shooter. In addition, the phone will also feature a 5.2-inch AMOLED display with at least 1440 x 2560 resolution. The flagship will also reportedly carry Huawei's homegrown Kirin 950 processor and will have 4 GB of RAM onboard. The industry follower added that Huawei may come out with two versions of the flagship, with a bigger Ascend P9 Max having a 6.2-inch screen.
