Android Lollipop 5.1 update for HTC One M7 may be coming after all

Taiwanese phone maker HTC's executive, Mo Versi, who is the VP of Product Management, initially stated that owners of the One M7 handset will not be able to experience the new features present in the Android Lollipop 5.1 update. Now, according to the information posted on PhoneArena, the executive's latest tweet might end up serving smiles all around because details of the tweet state that the update will be arriving on an unconfirmed date for those who are running carrier versions of the One M7.

A similar incident had taken place concerning the company's HTC Desire handset. The company had announced that the HTC Desire will not receive the Gingerbread 2.3 update despite the fact that the smartphone had only been released for a period of 14 months. The primary reason why HTC was not compelled to release the update was due to the device's low amount of RAM.

Eventually, the company gave in to the myriad number of complaints and rolled out the update for the phone. However, before doing so, the firm had to remove some of the stock applications that came with the latest update in order to free up sufficient amount of RAM for a fluid Android smartphone experience.

Seeing as how the One M7 is equipped with a 2 GB of RAM, it appears that the tech firm will have to come up with a better excuse if it does manage to rescind its promise on releasing the update. With Versi's tweet, One M7 owners will be waiting anxiously for the update notification to arrive on their handsets.

The company is currently gearing up to ship its current flagship smartphone, the One M9 (32 GB variant) to different parts of the globe. According to reports, HTC is also planning to release a 64 GB on-board memory model in the near future.
