How Knowing God Makes Us Hopeful in Times of Loss

The Bible tells us that our God is good, loving, kind, gracious, merciful, and that He does not do evil.

Knowing God should bring us hope and make us excited for the life that He gives every day. No matter what we face, the knowledge of God should carry us.

Our knowledge of God should also give us hope in unpleasant situations. When we experience loss and grief, knowing that our all-powerful and loving God is beside us should encourage us. His presence gives us hope.

Do times of loss and mourning make you feel hopeless in God? Here are some reasons why the knowledge of God should make you feel hopeful instead.

1. Knowing God Is Love Comforts Us

God is love, and all that He does is done in love and with the purpose of loving (see 1 John 4:8).

He never does things to harm us, and although we might feel hurt by what is happening in our lives, we should know that God never hurts anybody (see James 1:13).

Everything that God does is done in His love for us. When He does take something away from us, the process might be painful, but the end result is tremendously beneficial. His plans for us are not to harm us but to give us hope and a future (see Jeremiah 29:11)

2. Knowing God Is Sovereign Assures Us of Security

Knowing that our loving God is totally in control of all things makes us feel safe and secure. David knew this security, that's why he said in Psalm 23:4, "Even though I walk in the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and your staff, they comfort me."

No matter what happens in our lives, no matter how confusing or mixed-up life may be, nothing goes beyond God's control. He may allow some hurt to happen, but it's never beyond His power to move.

3. Knowing God Uses All Things to Make Us Like Christ Should Make Us Trust Him

Romans 8:28 says God makes all things work together for the good of those who are in Christ Jesus. God uses all things to mould us into the image and likeness of Christ Jesus. He deliberately allows all things that happen in our lives to make us more like Jesus, not more like the devil.

God wants us to be like Christ. We should see all times of loss and grief as opportunities to know Him more. When God allows some loss in our lives, it's actually for our gain.
