Agent 47, the bald, genetically-modified assassin with a barcode at the back of his head, is back and has a lot more contracts to fulfill, as the developers of "Hitman" prepare for season 2 of the episodic game series.

Developer Io Interactive is back on track for the follow-up to 2016's "Hitman." This was after their publisher, Square Enix, dropped their project due to it not being as profitable as expected. Io-Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak has spoken up about their comeback, saying, "Five months ago, I posted an open letter to let you know that Io-Interactive had become an independent studio once again."

It was also Abrak himself who has stated that they are now releasing the first new content since the conclusion of Season One of "Hitman," namely in the form of the game's upcoming Game of the Year Edition (GOTY). As to what the new content entails, it remains to be seen.

The developers are also allegedly making great progress towards the sequel of the 2016 title, with exciting new features and new additions to the franchise. That said, Abrak has stated that announcements and new information will have to be postponed until 2018, so fans may have to wait indefinitely.

Rest assured, the continuation of the first season's story is now being developed and will pick up from Diana Burnwood's liaison with the enigmatic representative of Providence, an Illuminati-like organization. This could potentially open up new encounters and possibilities for Agent 47, who was working for the International Contract Agency (ICA) assassination organization through Diana.

The game series is expected to have at least three seasons, with the two remaining ones preferably as long as the first one, which was comprised of six creatively replayable missions.

For the moment, fans can expect the arrival of "Hitman's" GOTY edition, which may contain all of the six missions released episodically throughout 2016-2017. Fans wanting to pre-order the new edition are advised to keep track of Io Interative's developments.
