The season 4 finale of "Grimm" was filled with shocking moments as one life ended while another began. In the finale, Nick's (David Giuntoli) longtime love Juliette (Bitsie Tulloch), who had turned into a hexenbiest during the season, was shot by Trubel (Jacqueline Toboni). Nick also learned that he was going to be a father after Adalind (Claire Coffee) told him that she was pregnant from their one-time encounter.
At the show's Comic-Con panel, the cast and executive producers were asked what's in store for fans in season 5, as it is anticipated that there will be major changes after the events of the last season's finale. One question that nagged at fans' minds was whether Juliette is really dead, and according to The Hollywood Reporter, executive producer David Greenwalt confirmed that Tulloch's character is truly gone. Greenwalt said that it is possible that Juliette may come back in flashbacks, but the focus of the new season will be on Nick's baby with Adalind.
TV Insider reports that fans will get to see the child's birth in the season 5 premiere of "Grimm."
"Nick makes it to the hospital just in time as Adalind is in labor with their child," said executive producer Jim Kouf to the website, adding that the baby has complications during birth that threaten Adalind's life.
At the Comic-Con panel, Giuntoli said that the baby will give Nick a new purpose in life after he has gone through so much loss during the past seasons.
"He lost his girlfriend, he lost his mom, he [loses] something in the first episode next season," said Giuntoli about his character. "I think the baby is the reason for me to keep going."
Giuntoli added that Nick and Adalind will have to co-parent, which is going to be "so bizarre."
As for Adalind, she'll also be focused on the baby, in addition to looking for a new job.
"She's lost her powers again, but I think this time, the focus really will be the baby," said Coffee.
As for the monsters that the Grimm will have to face next season, Greenwalt said that fans should expect to see an encounter with the Loch Ness Monster and gila monsters.
"Grimm" premieres its fifth season on Friday, Oct. 30, at 9 p.m. on NBC.
