'Grey's Anatomy' season 11 spoilers: Another rocking catastrophe in episode 23 'Time Stops'

Grey's Anatomy season 11 ABC

Season 11 of "Grey's Anatomy" has been a roller-coaster of emotions, particularly with the departing of Christina Yang and the recent death of Dr. McDreamy, the neurosurgeon Derek Shephard. Episode 24, "Time Stops," will force the characters to put their grievances aside however as another catastrophe strikes the city of Seattle.

According to the official synopsis of the episode, a disaster strikes and all hands are needed to work on emergency cases. It hasn't been confirmed what disastrous event the episode will focus on but fans have speculated it may be an earthquake or even a terrorist bombing.

"Grey's Anatomy" is no stranger to catastrophes. The series has seen a ferry boat crash, an airplane crash, a bomb inside a patient and inside the hospital, and a shooting incident. Several of these events have taken the lives of their friends and family, including but not limited to George O'Malley, Lexie Grey, Mark Sloan, and now Derek Shephard.

Not all the doctors may be able to cope in time to deal with the upcoming event. Amelia Shephard was devasted by the death of her brother and the last episode did not completely resolve her plot thread. It is possible that she will be forced to confront her sadness and face the reality of her brother's death while having to deal with the catastrophe at hand.

Meredith, on the other hand, is dealing with both Derek's passing and her new baby. With Christina Yang gone, the person who picked her up at the hospital was Alex. Fans had speculated that Christina would be back for Derek's funeral but that was not the case.

It may be possible that Alex might be her new "person" for the remainder of the series. After all, Alex and Meredith are now the only remaining characters from the original crew of surgical interns introduced in season 1.

"Time Stops" is scheduled to air on May 7 on ABC.
