NFL Thursday Night Football takes place tonight and will feature the Green Bay Packers going on the road to take on the Detroit Lions. The Packers need to get their season back on track after suffering a series of losses in the past month. It seems like a long time since the Packers made such a good start to their season, and now they must re-gain the initiative or risk losing out on the division title - something unthinkable just a month ago.
Green Bay come into this game on 7-4 and have fallen behind the Minnesota Vikings, who have moved up to 8-3. Another loss here today for the Packers would potentially leave them even further behind in the NFC North and with time running out as the regular season moves to a climax it could see them lose complete grip of the division.
The Lions are in the basement of the NFC North with a record of 4-7 and will be desperate to overturn their big rivals today. Victory today would move them to just two games away from the Packers and with Green Bay on the downturn the Lions would be looking at the possibility of catching the Packers.
Since Week 8, the Packers have lost their way, and they come up against a Lions team oppositely looking for a fourth straight win today. Detroit won 18-16 at Lambeau Field on November 15, which was their first victory there since 1991.
The Lions look a new team since then, destroying the Philadelphia Eagles 45-14 on Thanksgiving Day.
Speaking ahead of today's game, Packers' coach Mike McCarthy said, "Let's make it clear - we've been successful here, and success, you don't own success, it's rented. And you've got to earn it each and every day."
He added, "You have to carry forward what you've done in the past, and it's important for us to get ready to beat Detroit in Detroit."
Meanwhile, quarterback Aaron Rodgers said, "(The Lions are) playing good football all around. We've got to buckle down our preparation and make sure we're ready to play ... We've got to respond better to adversity."
