Fans have been waiting for any confirmation about the next installment in the "Grand Theft Auto" franchise, but game company Rockstar Games still opt to keep everything mum until now. However, theories have surfaced that the next game in the series wouldn't come anytime soon.
A report from Tech News Today points out that the latest fiscal report of video game publisher Take-Two Interactive reveals that the company owes a large portion of its current profits and success to a single game: "Grand Theft Auto V," which has fans speculating if Take-Two and developer Rockstar are already working on "Grand Theft Auto 6."
Neither Rockstar nor Take-Two has confirmed they are working on the next entry in the franchise, although a report from GameNGuide points out that the companies have stated during E3 earlier this year that they are working on something. Fans speculate it to be "Grand Theft Auto 6" or a "Red Dead Redemption" sequel or prequel.
The fiscal report also reveals that, despite "Grand Theft Auto V" coming out as far back as 2013, the game is still widely popular, and its online mode, "Grand Theft Auto Online," has kept the title relevant throughout the years due to its constant addition of new downloadable content packs containing new game modes, weapons, and vehicles, among others.
It is widely speculated that this meant "Grand Theft Auto 6" will either come with a similar package, where the online mode is separate from the single player campaign, or where the game will integrate the two into one seamless open-world.
Additionally, there are many rumors suggesting that "Grand Theft Auto 6" may be set outside of the US, with London dubbed as one of the overseas locations dubbed as a possible setting for the game.
However, given how Los Santos and San Andreas represent California cities, Vice City is a stand-in for Miami ,and Liberty City is a stand-in for New York, it is possible the cities representing London or other possible international cities will be given a different name than their real-world counterpart.
Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar have yet to make any official announcements regarding "Grand Theft Auto 6" and its release.
