The rumors are rife that Rockstar Games is already working on the next entry in the popular "Grand Theft Auto" game series. The fans are hoping that "Grand Theft Auto 6" will be officially announced soon, with a release date set next year. Unfortunately, based on the latest reports, it may be difficult for the game studio to launch a huge game title such as "GTA VI" as early as 2018.

As reported by PCGamesN, "GTA" fans may have to wait a little longer before "Grand Theft Auto 6" finally becomes a reality. For now, Rockstar may still be busy working on other huge game projects to come up with a new "GTA VI" concept. The game studio already revealed that the much-awaited Western cowboy-themed game sequel "Red Dead Redemption 2" is under development. Until the game is already released, Rockstar will be able to proceed with another giant game title like "Grand Theft Auto 6."

Another possible reason for a later release date for "Grand Theft Auto 6" is to avoid stealing the spotlight away from "Red Dead Redemption 2," which is expected to be out next year. To note, it will not be too unusual if Rockstar plans to release the next "GTA" title after 2018. The previous "Grand Theft Auto" titles took four to five years of development before the arrival of a follow-up game. In the case of "GTA VI," the possible release date may fall on 2018 or early 2019.

As for the latest gameplay features and contents of "Grand Theft Auto VI," The Guardian reported that Rockstar may extend the scope of the game series out of the U.S. In a 2013 interview with Rockstar Games' Dan Houser, he revealed that they are considering a new setting for the future "GTA" title outside the country. There are rumors that London will be the next featured city of "GTA VI," although Houser said that a U.K. location is not yet a guarantee.

Perhaps, the biggest surprise to come with "Grand Theft Auto 6" is the possibility of a first-ever female protagonist. In the same interview, Houser stated that introducing a female lead character in future "GTA" titles would be interesting. Although at the time, Rockstar did not think that it was the right timing in "Grand Theft Auto V" to make such a huge development.
