Google has started to roll out updates for its Nexus 5X smartphone. This is in response to the feedback from 5X owners whose smartphones are experiencing several issues, with some even needing to reboot their device every few days. This update is in addition to the March security update that the company is also implementing.

The announcement about the Nexus 5X update came via a Reddit post by Orrin, community manager for Google Nexus and a verified Google employee, informing its community about the good news. It seems that the statement was made a few hours before the update started to roll out.

He wrote: "I know there has been some discussion here about the 5X-specific factory images that were posted yesterday on the developers site. I wanted to give some clarification around this, and specifically let you all know that an OTA update will begin rolling out today for the Nexus 5X. We have listened to your feedback, and this update includes a number of bug fixes that will improve overall stability, connectivity, and performance on the Nexus 5X. The March security update will be included with this OTA for the Nexus 5X."

The news was wholeheartedly welcomed by Nexus 5X users, who posted their responses on the same board.

Android Authoritiy added that Orrin stated specific issues that the update will fix, and these are:

  • Bluetooth crashes
  • Slow performance issue
  • Disappearing issue of DND next alarm
  • Carrier-related issues

It will also add improvements in Wi-Fi connection.

Google Nexus 5X owners will be receiving notifications about the update within the next couple of days or weeks. For those who want to update manually, the factory images are already up and ready to be downloaded. The appropriate files and instruction are available on the developer's page of the company.

As for the March security update for the Nexus 5, 5X, 6, 6P, Nexus 7 and Nexus 9, the update will fix several vulnerabilities related to Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and setup wizard.
