The next lineup of Google Nexus phones are currently touted to be released by Oct. 4, and they may be carrying the names Nexus Pixel X and Nexus Pixel XL.

According to a report from Pocket-Lint, the next lineup of Google Nexus phones, reportedly known as the M1 or Marlin and S1 or Sailfish, may be launching as early as Oct. 4 based on an event that Google is hosting in preparation for launching several products and devices.

Google has yet to confirm what the planned event is and what it is for, but rumors suggest that it is going to be a large event which will showcase many key devices and software such as the aforementioned phones, an update to Android 7.0 Nougat, or even a few improvements to the Google Play Store.

The phones are also stated to be developed by HTC and in-house at Google. The previous two Nexus phones were designed by Huawei and LG. Initially, the upcoming phones are said to be called the Marlin and Sailfish, but there are new suggestions which claim that they will be referred to as the Nexus Pixel X and Nexus Pixel XL upon release.

Both phones are said to be based on the HTC 10 devices but sporting a mostly metal body. It may also be running on the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor, which is 10 percent faster and more efficient than the Snapdragon 820.

There is also a possibility that the Pixel X and Pixel XL will feature 4 GB of RAM, and they are rumored to be using the same 12-MP rear camera that Sony has been using for their own smartphones, like the Xperia series. However, without a beta version of the phone out, these specs could be different upon release.

Regarding the phone's software, rumors suggest that the devices may use a new method of checking notifications. This will require users to simply swipe down on the fingerprint scanner on the back of the phone, making it much quicker and easier to check notifications. This system has been used on phones made by Huawei.
