By now, everyone may have seen that video where Floyd Mayweather Jr. was poking fun at Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao, particularly his celebrated shoulder injury.
The video was uploaded via Mayweather's Instagram account, something he said was just a form of having fun.
But Pacquiao responded with some words of wisdom against Mayweather, seemingly preaching rather than engaging in violence againstMayweather's usual insults.
"We should understand Floyd Mayweather Jr. because of his family background. He hailed from a family of ex-convicts and he himself is an ex-convict. We could not blame him because his action just showed the kind of family upbringing he had," Pacquiao said via Philboxing.com
Pacquiao has never been known to engage in verbal (or in this case social media) jabs, though his response does seem like a direct hit towards Mayweather as a person.
As of this writing, there has been no reaction from Mayweather, though it will not be surprising if he does come out with another proverbial jab against the Saranggani congressman-boxer.
Mayweather won via unanimous decision over Pacquiao at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas last May. Many were left thinking about the few punches Pacquiao threw but later found out that the Filipino boxer was fighting with an injured right shoulder.
Mayweather was open to a rematch at first, something which could happen once Pacquiao is 100% fully recovered. However, the undefeated American boxer retracted those words and eventually called Pacquiao a sore loser for not wanting to admit defeat.
Despite these tirades, there are some who believe that a Mayweather vs. Pacquiao II could happen next year.
This is despite the fact that Mayweather announced that his upcoming September fight would be the last of his career. A victory will allow him to match the record of boxing legend Rocky Marciano, who ended his boxing career on a high note at 49-0.
There is no word yet on who Mayweather plans to face, though the name of Amir Khan, incidentally a former sparring partner of Pacquiao, is believed to be the one to face the Flamboyant unbeaten boxer.
Other names being thrown in the hat include Kell Brook and Kazakh Gennady Golovkin. For his part, Mayweather mentioned Andre Berto and Karim Mayfield as possible opponents, though many are not buying it.
Pacquiao is still on the road to recovery and admits that though he can now walk without a sling, his movement is limited. The earliest time that the boxer can return to the ring will likely be early 2016.
